How Government Public Relations Converted Me to PR.

My former boss at the Utah Senate, Ric Cantrell. (Note:
he is a man of the wilderness!)
The following is a tribute to Ric Cantrell, My former boss from the Utah Senate. The following explains how Ric changed my perception of public relations and ultimately lead to me switching my major from journalism to public relations.

Ric gave me a completely different perspective on the government and public relations. After working with him for over half a year, his example motivated me to change my major to public relations and has motivated my conviction with my public relations degree to help organizations and companies become more transparent and accessible like he has done with the Utah Senate.

Ric saw the value in me, at a time when I did not fully recognize the value within myself. He reignited a flame in me to have a strong desire to achieve, and to use my skills to help others companies and organizations succeed through, branding, accessibility, and ultimately reigniting the flame within the public. Ric consistently set aside time on a regular basis to advise me, give me tasks and goals, and took the time to explain the culture of government public relations. Ric did a great job rendering trust to me and assigning me with important tasks to complete for him.

The work Ric has done for the Utah Senate is incredible and has lead to other government groups and organizations following and replicating the model of accessibility and transparency he has created. Ric’s work with the Utah Senate has given citizens a voice again, and has opened the gates for the public to communicate directly with the Utah Senate and receive instant feedback, updates, and insights to news directly happening on within the Senate Chambers.

Ric is fun, charming, and kind. He does an amazing job making all of his staff members and employees feel valued and respected. Ric has taught me an invaluable view on government public relations that I hope I can carry with me and apply for the rest of my life. Him selecting me to work with him and be apart of his team has truly inspired me and changed my life. I am forever grateful to Ric Cantrell for establishing the faith within me, through correctly practiced public relations, hearts can be touched, minds can be informed, and people can connect to achieve the overall goal of the betterment of society.
