I was hired as a communications intern, it seemed fit to have me in the east building as an office manager. I was told, "10% of the time you'll be working at an office manager, the other 90% you'll be working on social media for the senate." FINE BY ME! I love being involved and being here.
It's interesting working here while being in the mindset of a journalist, I wish I could waste more then half of my time meeting other reporters and networking however that would be anything but okay to do on company time. Whenever I see the reporters up on capitol hill, I yearn to be them. I also get really excited whenever I see anyone from the Salt Lake Tribune because the tribune gave me a scholarship to help me fund my education this year.
I will be honest with you all, before this job, I knew little to nothing about government and I still have a lot to learn. However, it is amazing to be in a work environment when I can see these senators and officials interact with others and talk to them myself and to see them through my eyes in comparison of through the eyes of the media.
I want to update my blog about what I am learning at the senate, however due to confidentiality reasons there is not much I will be able to say until after my internship is completed. I will be keeping a private journal of my endeavors. I am a non-partisan staff member and I am not affiliated with either political party. I value the opinions of others and I look forward to meeting whoever comes by my office and gladly having a conversation. Please feel free to come by and visit me, I would love to hear about your stories and experiences.

Thanks for sharing this.
No problem! It'll be interesting to update it as the legislature progresses over the next 45 days!
